The Meaning of Meraki
Meraki is a Greek word that means doing something with passion, care, and complete dedication—leaving a part of yourself in everything you create. It reflects the values that guide every consultation, treatment, and patient interaction at the clinic.
Ancient Greece, the birthplace of classical Western medicine, and Traditional Chinese Medicine each offer rich and time-honoured approaches to health. At Meraki, these traditions come together, combining evidence-informed clinical thinking with the holistic principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine to provide personalised care for every patient.

Our approach
Who We Are
Meraki Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic, based in Praia da Luz, Algarve, offers a personalised and integrative approach to healthcare.
We specialise in Traditional Chinese Medicine, providing treatments for digestive health, stress, sleep disorders, hormonal balance, pain, sports injuries, and other acute and chronic conditions. Every treatment plan is tailored to the individual and may include acupuncture, herbal medicine, Tui Na massage, cupping, moxibustion, Gua Sha, and Chinese dietary therapy.
Our goal is to restore balance, address the root cause of symptoms, and support lasting health and wellbeing.
How we treat at Meraki
Our approach is rooted in the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, treating the body as an interconnected whole rather than focusing on symptoms alone.
Every treatment is tailored to the individual using pattern diagnosis and may include acupuncture, herbal medicine, Tui Na massage, cupping, moxibustion, Gua Sha, and Chinese dietary therapy.
We support patients with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, including pain, digestive disorders, stress, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and hormonal imbalances, with the aim of restoring balance and promoting lasting health.

Catarina Furtado
TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE THERAPIST
Came to Traditional Chinese Medicine after an academic background in other fields — a journey that brought a broader perspective on health and the human being.Trained at ESMTC, completing five years of study across the main branches of classical Chinese medicine.
The approach is strongly holistic: rather than treating symptoms alone, the focus is on understanding the underlying imbalances and helping patients develop the tools to manage their own health.
Patient autonomy is considered an essential part of the therapeutic process — therefore, care extends beyond the consultation into education, daily habits, and practical tools that support long-term wellbeing.

André Taquelim
TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE THERAPIST
Trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Instituto Português de Naturologia, guided from the beginning by a core belief that continues to shape clinical practice today: that helping others often means giving them the tools to care for themselves.
This philosophy is reflected both in clinical work and teaching. A significant part of practice is dedicated to the body-based disciplines of Traditional Chinese Medicine, namely Tai Ji Quan and Qi Gong, which are taught as methods of self-care and balance.
In clinical practice, the main focus is on acupuncture and therapeutic massage, with particular emphasis on the treatment of pain and sports-related injuries.
